The Importance of Goal Setting

By John Karnish

When you start any endeavor, goal setting should be an important part of the process. But, how many people actually sit down and figure out what steps they have to take to achieve their goals? The amount of people reaching their full potential would be much greater if people did this.

Goals should be set for even small endeavors. Succeeding at small goals will give you the courage and motivation to go after your larger goals. It has been proven that attaining many small goals helps you grow as a person.

Maybe you're starting to plan for retirement. Maybe you are younger and looking to settle down and raise a family. Whatever your situation, put your goals and the steps to reach them down on paper. You may even have to set a bunch of smaller goals to reach a long term goal. For instance, I'm pretty out of shape but would like to take up jogging. I set a smaller goal doing some walking each day and another goal of eating healthier to lose weight. These are two smaller goals that will help me reach my ultimate goal of jogging.

You will get a great sense of pleasure from completing and attaining your goals. Anything can seem impossible but if you break things down into smaller goals almost anything can be achieved. After all, how does one fun a marathon? One step at a time.

Make a habit of stetting goals for all your endeavors. Remember to put them on paper and break each goal down into many goals. You will see great things start to happen in your life. Dream a big dream and then take action. Remember, "The surest way to make a task seem impossible is to keep on putting it off."

Not having a goal, is like taking a trip without a destination in mind

Getting to the roof top, requires using the rungs of the ladder to climb to the upper level. Those rungs are like the small steps that one takes toward success. You may miss a step and fall backward, but this teaches one to pay attention.
Thank you for sharing, John.
Best wishes.
